Percussion Teaching Artist Application

Independent Contractor Position

You will teach percussion to youth through AMI approved curriculum. You will support rehearsals, performances, and musical development across multiple chapters. You must have dependable transportation because you will travel for performances, community events, and chapter visits.

Pay and Schedule
$20 per hour
Monday through Friday 4 to 6 according to the Miami Dade Schools calendar
Special events and shows as scheduled
Miami Dade area
This position is funded for the current semester with potential extension based on funding and student enrollment

Role Responsibilities
Teach percussion using AMI curriculum
Lead rehearsals in group and sectional settings
Prepare students for performances
Maintain attendance and progress records
Care for AMI instruments and report damage
Support a safe learning space
Represent AMI professionally at schools and events
Attend scheduled trainings and meetings

Requirements
Experience teaching youth percussion
Ability to read music and teach technique
Proficiency in xylophone and drums
Reliable transportation
Availability for after school hours and weekend performances
Pass a background check
Timely communication with leadership

Audition and Hiring Process
Live audition including sight reading a short piece on percussion
Performance on xylophone and drums
Must Complete a interview project

Helpful additions
Access to personal instrument set
Experience with concert and marching percussion
Experience with diverse music styles
